Knee arthroscopy is a surgical treatment that allows surgeons to see into the knee joint without having to make a big incision (cut) through the skin and other soft tissues. The camera sends images to a television monitor, which your surgeon uses to guide microscopic surgical instruments. Because the arthroscope and surgical equipment are tiny, your surgeon can perform surgery through extremely small incisions rather than the larger incisions required for open surgery. Patients experience less pain and stiffness as a result, and the time it takes to heal and return to favorite activities is typically reduced.
