Shoulder arthroscopy is a sort of sophisticated surgery that uses specialised equipment and small incisions (a few millimetres each) to allow the surgeon to address damage with minimal surgical harm to the patient. The specialised equipment comprises of a camera with variable angles at the tip (called a "arthroscope") and a pump system. The camera sends video images to a monitor, which the surgeon uses to guide her as she controls specialised small devices in real-time. Arthroscopy technology allows the surgeon to see everything inside the shoulder joint and, in many cases, provides better visualisation of the inside of the shoulder than a traditional big incision.
